More about Thomas

Thomas Krampitz, EngD/PhD/Dr.-Ing. is a pioneer in recycling and waste management technology.

After studying engineering and specializing in material recovery science and technology, he spent many years working with industry and government to apply his research and science directly in the field.

Early on, his focus has been on perfecting material recovery, and on the optimization of the material flow in the entire waste stream from cradle-to-cradle. Along the way, Thomas developed and implemented unique concepts, to close gaps between today’s economy and a future circularity – a perfect balance between economical and ecological benefits.

With a flexible and adaptive approach, his concepts allow us to take advantage of available solutions immediately while working towards the elimination of waste and the reduction of landfill.

Over the years, Thomas has held multiple leadership positions in industry and scientific research to further advance his capabilities.

His unique ability to develop concepts and implement them directly has positioned Thomas to be the world-leading engineer in plastics recycling, material and energy recovery science.

Thomas and the University hold various patents in relation to recycling. He developed and perfected the best approach to Li-Ion battery recycling, carbon-fiber lifecycle solutions and many others.

Currently, Thomas is appointed Head of Recycling Institute at the Technical University in Freiberg, Saxony, Germany where he lectures the next generation of recycling and material science engineers. He also leads at FOREL –Institute for Research and Development for Recycling and Centre for Resource-Efficient Lightweight Structures in Vehicle Construction and Electro-Mobility, a joint establishment between the universities of Freiberg, Dresden, Munich, Dortmund and Paderborn. He also collaborates with the German Federal Government and the Ministry of the Environment.

Thomas exclusively works with Gre.So. in Germany and Canada to further apply his knowledge in the field. Through his unique overarching approach, he has developed some of the worlds leading solutions to waste management, material and energy recovery.
